Hi, That is most interesting, I had always believed that insurances through banks were expensive. I shall get a car insurance quote from them. Thanks very much

My car insurance quote from Sabadel was a lot more than Linea Directa.

Hi, Sabadell seem to vary their charges depending upon the weather.

At present we pay €15.00 per quarter which is not too terrible. One of my pensions is paid in every month which keeps them happy.

We opened a Wise account and N26 bank accounts and are absolutely delighted with the service.

These new style bank accounts seem to be catching on in place of the conventional banks.

Hope your new accounts prove to be better for you.

Can you pay direct debits from Wise and N26 accounts?

Sorry no honourable banks in Spain for UK  non residents. Since Brexit we are now charged €45 quarterly. ( and for that they refuse  to serve us at counter we go ATM) . We have now “ wise “ cards and are converting all our payments through them eventually in a few months we will leave Sabdell. Wise have an IBN which Spain have to accept otherwise breaking European laws but you do the first initial payment through Sabdell then when all your debits are set up ( all in one go ) you can change IBN to Wise cutting out Sabdell. Orbit and Olive accept wise as payment .. Please note this is what we are doing as non residents I am sure others may have better ideas but we cannot wait to leave Sabadell who are owned by TSB .....?..sorry if this is not useful.

I had the usual statement of charges sent from BBva, 160 Euros, for doing what? I do use Wise to transfer money but I will be looking into using them to complete any transactions instead of Bbva. As I only have a few direct debits I can certainly use the chargeable 160 Euros elsewhere.

In my original post (ES IBANs v’s non ES IBANs) I tried to draw attention to the fact that irrespective of SEPA Article 9 and the illegality of declining online transactions using non-Spanish but EU member state IBANs - there is still a risk that some Spanish merchants and even institutions have systems which remain non-compliant and reject transactions

Verifying proposed Payor/Payee Direct Debits should be relatively easy - and checks should be completed prior to switching banks

Sadly, sundry online merchant transactions which still require an IBAN process remain a step into the unknown

Sabadell acquired TSB in 2015 and it’s attempt to migrate customers from the Lloyds Bank  platform onto Sabadell’s new platform in 2018 was a complete disaster, resulting in the loss of mobile banking, interest accruals and payment difficulties for businesses and mortgage customers lasted over a period of five months

I simply opened an N26 bank account. comes with a spanish IBAN number, visa debit card and payment of direct debits and other bills.

With the N26 account, which ATMs are you able to get cash from without paying a fee? Thx.

Hi, I have not yet needed to use an ATM. My understanding is that three free withdrawals are allowed per month. I would suggest looking at the info on their site.

Hi, I ran into this issue with TransferWise - they also offer 2 or 3 free withdrawals from 'selected' ATMS, but all the ATMS I have tried, try to charge a (significant) fee. From the N26 website it looks like when you open an account with them, you get an app that shows you the local 'free ATMs'. I'll probably just open an account and figure it out! I'm mostly cash-free, but cash can be handy for small/sub-1euro purchases. Thx...
