Hi DaveandDrew, I opened an N26 bank account a few weeks ago and it is brilliant and free. We are spanish residents and opened the N26 "Spain" application both on our smart phones and online. One gets a Spanish IBAN number and a Mastercard debit card. They will also deal with your transfers and d...

...irect debits. I had a few questions and their customer services are superb.

I exchange monies from the uk with Wise.com and they transfer the euros straight into our N26 account. Company is German so extremely efficient.

Only drawback at present is that they dont offer a joint account so my Wife and I decided to get an account each.

Take a look at Trust pilot for feedback on N26.

Fantastic, Thank You

Banco Santander charges me 10 Euros/mo, so yes, that's about normal.  I agree that N26 is a great option if you need a "local" account.  If you don't need a local account, look at www.xe.com to transfer funds for free.

DaveandDrew need a bank account and N26 fits the bill for free. www.xe.com and Wise.com are both excellent but cant give DaveandDrew what they want

Hi, At long last my Wife and I made an appointment with Sabadell and dropped in today. To date we have never paid any bank charges for 17 years. It appears that my state pension is free from the €18.00 charge and those €18.00 charges relate to small odd transfers from friends and family in the uk.

Needless to say those payments will stop. Whilst chatting we were told that bank charges of €15.00 per quarter will now be applied. We dont really have a problem with such a  small amount but if we take out one of their insurance products the charges will be withdrawn. I think historically banks various services are expensive but I dont really know. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has insurances through sabadell and how the cost compares to other providers.

I  opened a N26 bank account in readiness to close my Sabadell account but now there is no need but I shall keep N26 running just incase sabadell find the urge to increase charges again. I  use N26 and find it excellent.

Hello

We found exactly the same with Sabadell so decided to ask for a quote for our house insurance, and it came back some 40 euros cheaper than the policy we had, coupled with the fact that we saved another 60 euros with the bank charges, we decided to go ahead.  Unfortunately this month we had to make a claim,  the person who reads the water meter called to say the reading was very high compared to our last readings. Checking the dial we found the clock was indeed moving albeit very slowly.  We had no leaks, damp patches, pudles so decided it must be in the walls but no idea where so we contacted Sabadell insurance,  they were really nice and very helpful and a  plumber was sent the very next day he couldn't find the leak so a leak detector man arrived with a machine, he found the area and the plumber came back and sorted it followed by a builder to replace the tiles fill up the holes in the walls etc.  The whole procedure was very professional, we were kept informed by text what time everyone was coming also Sabadell have asked us to send our new water bill plus our past year's to average it out for the wasted water. So we are delighted with the service and would suggest to anyone else that it is well worth getting a quote, as you really have nothing to lose.

Hi, That is most interesting, I had always believed that insurances through banks were expensive. I shall get a car insurance quote from them. Thanks very much

I have an account with Sabadell and they now charge me 40 Euros per quarter to have the account. I am looking at alternatives. ING seems to have a free account as long as you can pay in 700 Euros a month. I also use TransferWise  (now just Wise) for international transfers and am a big fan of it. I also got myself a TransferWise Debit card, so in principle might not even need a bank account at all. I'm going to have a chat with Sabadell, but think that might be a waste of time. So, right now it looks like either ING or just use a TransferWise account (which looks and behaves just like a bank account, including paying your bills, or receiving money with an IBAN number). I also am in the US a lot, and Transferwise gives me 'bank' accounts in US$, GBP and Euros (and any other currency if necessary).

Hope any of this is useful!

:)

Hi, Sabadell seem to vary their charges depending upon the weather.

At present we pay €15.00 per quarter which is not too terrible. One of my pensions is paid in every month which keeps them happy.

We opened a Wise account and N26 bank accounts and are absolutely delighted with the service.

These new style bank accounts seem to be catching on in place of the conventional banks.

Hope your new accounts prove to be better for you.

Hi, TransferWise will exchange your gbp for euros and then transfer those funds to their own Spanish bank. From there your monies are transferred to your bbva account making it an internal transfer and therefore not subject to transfer charge.

Should bbva be one of the banks applying maintenance charges for managing your account, perhaps consider opening a free account with N26. Can open an N26 Spanish account with an IBAN number and direct debits as well. N26 automatically link TransferWise app with their own.

...

Unless there has been a change, Wise does not have a Spanish banking operation

Certainly my (TransferWise) Wise EUR account is still domiciled with Handelsbanken in Brussels. The IBAN is generic and thus it is not a personal bank a/c per se

If, in these last few years Wise does indeed have representation in Spain I’d appreciate feedback

Meanwhile I use Wise to convert GBP to EUR and transfer directly into my Sabadell a/c

Fantastic, Thank You

I hadn’t heard of N26 but am interested now! My main question is, are there sufficient local ATMs in the Mijas area where you can get Free cash withdrawals. I have a Wise debut card and supposedly free withdrawals are available but I have yet to come across an ATM where I can get cash with my Wise card without being charged.  If certain local ATMs give free withdrawals with N26, that would be perfect!

Thanks

Sunil
