Hi, Sorry I forgot to mention that should anyone decide to open an account with n26, to make sure you complete "n26 spain" as there are applications for many different countries. All applications are completed online and you need to have a smart phone.

Hi, I have now opened a Standard account with N26 Spain which took about 10 mins to complete online. https:// app.n26.com. The account is free but one can upgrade to other accounts for a monthly fee. They offer a free account transfer service from your existing bank. Physical debit card is €10.00 and they will deal with your direct debits. They will issue you with a Spanish IBAN number for all transfers/payments.  quick phone calls to pensions uk Gov and private pension providers will have your pensions paid directly into n26 in Euros. I had a couple of questions so I contacted n26 chat line. I was dealt with very quickly and the lady with whom I spoke could not have been more friendly and helpful. N26 a long time since I have been able to say that. any questions don't hesitate to ask me.

Would it maybe not make more sense to use Transferwise? I'm not sure who you use for transferring funds right now but my suggestion would be to get yourself the Transferwise app as it circumvents the issues that you have seen, regardless of the rights or wrongs of it. It's a quick solution to you...

...r problem and stops you having to change banks. I've transferred money to my Sabadell account just this morning as it happens. You pay from your UK account into Transferwise but the payment is made from their Spanish bank account into your Spanish account, so it's a domestic transaction with no local fees. The whole process from leaving my account to appearing in my Spanish account took 4.5 seconds. Job done and hassle-free.

I hope the suggestion helps.

Hi Andy

I opened a Wise account (Formerly Travelwise) and I must say it's brillaint. Easy to navigate the website and indeed money is transferred in seconds. So for anyone out there that is getting charge by your Spanish bank to receive money from your English bank then set up an account with Wise.

Thanks Andy once again, it's going to save me 21 Euros every time I want to transfer into my Spanish bank 👌

Am I doing things wrong . I have used Transferwise many times . From my UK account to them . I have a Starling account that is in 2 parts one gbp the other euros . So from Transferwise to the Starling account but it goes into gbp then I have to transfer it to euro side . The cost is normally just under £20 per £5,000 . I spoke to Transferwise , as someone had said they dont get charged but they said everyone pays . I have an account with Cajamar and as long as you keep €1000 in you are not charged for anything . Its called Cuesta 360 account

Good morning all, I wanted to open a Spanish Bank account but being stuck here in the UK the only one I could find to do on line was Caxia Bank. I have successfully opened an account but they charge 35 Euros per quarter to maintain the account, is this normal. Your comments would be appreciated , do all banks charge this much!!!!

Hi DaveandDrew, I opened an N26 bank account a few weeks ago and it is brilliant and free. We are spanish residents and opened the N26 "Spain" application both on our smart phones and online. One gets a Spanish IBAN number and a Mastercard debit card. They will also deal with your transfers and direct debits. I had a few questions and their customer services are superb.

I exchange monies from the uk with Wise.com and they transfer the euros straight into our N26 account. Company is German so extremely efficient.

Only drawback at present is that they dont offer a joint account so my Wife and I decided to get an account each.

Take a look at Trust pilot for feedback on N26.
