Thanks for your detailed response, which is very useful and much appreciated. So it seems the withdrawals are ‘free but not free’! It’s rather misleading for them to say Free withdrawals without clarifying the situation - but that seems to be ’acceptable’ in the business world today! I ...

...think Marketing departments  should be renamed ‘Misleading departments’ because their job is to make things look better than they are! :) Anyway, a fixed fee of around 1.50 euros for a 200 euro withdrawal seems not unreasonable. I imagine the fee will show up in your N26 bank account as a ‘Free withdrawal fee’!! :) Thanks for clarifying things!

Hi, You are most welcome. Like you I do not have problem with paying around €1.50 to withdrawer funds.

I have looked on my N26 account and the withdrawal is shown but there is not a deduction for the withdrawal fee. No monies were deducted from the withdrawal from the cash machine so this seem to really be a "free" one.

So the answer seems to be to use banks cash machines and not individual ATM`S.

I used transferwise to buy our property two years ago and use it to transfer all the time. Am also about to change from Sabadell to transfer wise to pay my Spanish bills .

We are new in Spain and have to transfer for a house purchase

It looks like Wise is best option

How long did the transfer take ,the reason I am asking is that I am worried about the time of large suns transfer ,since the funds from the house sale in Uk is to pay for the one in Spain and we have set times for the completion of the sale

hi David, Bank Sabadell told us the same so we opened a N26 free bank account which is linked to wise for exchange from GBP to Euros. Have a look at n26 and wise on Trust Pilot. Should you need any further info dont hesitate to come back. N26 offer same services as all banks

Hi thanks for your reply.

It is not just the transfer costs. Santander has lost my new debit card since March and is not replying to my emails or calls, the branch closed down and no-one informed me and I had to turn detective to find where my account had moved to.

I would be grateful for any info about N26 -I have never heard about it so links, comments would be appreciated

Hi David, apologies for the delay in coming back. My I.T skills are very limited so I am unable to post links. I do well to turn on the PC of a morning.

Go on the nett and search for" N26 app". You can apply for an account online and takes about 15 mins.

At present n26 doesnt offer a  joint account so my wife and I opened an account each.

N26 is a German bank so as you would imagine everything runs very efficiently.

You can apply for a debit card for a one off payment of €10.00. You will get your own Spanish IBAN number and the account pays direct debits and transfers.

We have our accounts online as well as apps on our phones. We also have a Wise.com account which is linked to our n26 accounts. Wise exchange currencies and their charges are minimal.

Please take a look at the reviews of n26 and wise on "Trust Pilot".

We have nothing but praise for both and cuts out the spanish banks throwing their toys out of the pram. It really couldnt be simpler. Dont hesitate to come back with any question.

Hi David, do you not have a spanish address or at least one you can "borrow" until you do. Do you have a VPN?
