Driving permits in Spain

I am home-owner in Spain but I am non-resident. We visit our holiday home a number of times a year and need to hire a car as we live inland. What is the position regarding European driving permits in Spain? Someone has told me that we need to have one since Brexit. Any information would be helpful as we are due to travel to Spain next week.

Hi Pat

They are called IDP's (Imternational Driving Permits) valid for a year available at any UK Post Office for £5 or £6 I believe. It is advisable to obtain one as your never know when the Spanish Police will spring up a road block and ask for you UK Driving Licence as well as your I.D.P . Even the Car Hire Companies ask for them sometimes.

You don't need an international driving for tourism in Spain from UK. see link.
