Alcaucin Padron and TIE Application

Hi Peoples! We are Mark and Clover, husband and wife, living in Manchester, at least for the next week or so.

We both have NIE numbers. Our house purchase in Alcaucin, Malaga is close to completion (we expect to make the final payment imminently). We intend to move to live in Spain as soon as we possibly can (this year?)

Any advice or help with the following, (or indeed with any practicalities) would be welcome.

What is the quickest and easiest way for us to register on the Alcaucin Padron, to ensure we are on it before the end of December this year?

What is the quickest and easiest way to get our TIE application in?

We can probably fly out to Spain at short notice if necessary.

I'm in the process of setting up our full health insurance policy. I have opened a Spanish joint bank account, which currently has about 5,000 Euros in it. Should I put more money in it now. to satisfy residence requirements?

We are aged 65 and 62 and both fully retired. We do have sufficient funds and pensions available to prove we can live comfortably in Spain without further income (except pension draw down)

Thanks for any pearls of wisdom anyone can offer.

Cheers, Mark

Please don’t take this as a conclusive list. To apply for TIE you will need an S1 certificate available from NHS and a pension statement stamped and signed from DWP for each of you. You will also need your Padron and I don’t know if you can apply for that remotely. Best to have a gestor or lawyer deal with it as they can submit your application to Malaga, but it’ll be difficult to get this done before 31st December. From 1st January my understanding is that you will be classed as any other non EU member applying and I believe that means no health care and a certain amount of money to prove you can support yourself in Spain. There seems to be a lot of beaurocracy and red tape, but it’s worth it. Hope this has helped, and good luck with everything.

Hi Cazmac, we are not yet eligible for state pension in UK (too young at 65!), so cannot apply for the SI.

Hi there,

Phew! Skin of the teeth time...LOL. Are you on Facebook? There's a few pages for the Axarquia, the Alcaucn ayumtamiento, and one called Vinuela Connect. Post there and ask for a gestor to urgently take on your case. As long as an application for residencia is lodged before 31/12/20 it'll count as pre-Brexit. You can make an appointment for your padron with no rush - although I would get that asap - which gives you a bit of time to find your feet. We don't have the great shut-down at Xmas here, only a couple of days are affected so, hopefully you can get an appointment soon. As with most things, as long as you are in the system, that counts as your status being on This Side of Brexit, if you know what I mean.

Good Luck!

Sorry, just read that you were retired. In that case you will need to show confirmation of private health care.

Hi pricklyone, I’ve just gone through the process and it took 4/5 weeks to get my residencia approved. I also had to get my Padron before applying.

If buying a property your gestor should have sorted this for you. You need to be in Spain to sign the papers and padron + tie is a finger print job

Best of Luck

Regards Geoff
