Hi all,

My husband and I are due to complete on a property in Duquesa on 2nd Sept.  Our lawyer has sent us a summary of all the fees, which we have now paid.

However, today (out of the blue) our lawyer was asking for 500 euros approx for the need to request boletín to change the electricity contract.  I challenged this cost as we have back and forth with the lawyer since Feb and this has never been mentioned.

The lawyer has now stated that wedo not have not to pay this now, and that they will let us know about this as the electrician has to visit the property to prepare an final estimate (after completion date).

I have no problem paying what is due, but is this normal ?

My assumption is that the current owner will take meter readings and send to either the lawyers or the electric company, but I don't know the system so I am a little confused and shocked by this charge.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Also, I have asked the lawyer many times what the council rates bill dates are, the start and end date.  I know we have to pay between June and Sept, but in the UK our rates bill year is 1st April and 31st March.

And when is the non residential tax return due ?

Can anyone recommend an English speaking company or solicitors they have used to help them moving to Spain and with getting a Non Lucrative Visa, help with bank accounts etc and property purchase. We are looking to relocate to Spain in the Duquesa area in a couple of years and would like get as much information and help as possible. TIA

We are expected to complete on our property in Duquesa on 2nd Sept.  We are a little annoyed as we made a payment from our Euro Starling account and the bank (Spanish end) charged us approx 125.50 euros.

To be honest, we visited two Spanish banks back in May and both advised that their charges were 40 euros per month, with is pretty ridiculous.

One of the ladies dealing with our POA has asked the utilities suppliers about us paying our direct debits using our Starling Euro account (Starling has stated we can do this) but apparently the suppliers won't accept an iban beginning with GB, it has to be ES.

Can anyone give any recommendations on Spanish banks ?

Also, we have been told that the council tax bill is paid between June and Sept, which is fine, but can you tell me the annual period.  In the UK it is 1st April to 31st March, what are the dates in Spain.

I would like to know if anyone can recommend someone to demolish a wall and install a new kitchen.

Are there any of the major supermarkets in La Duquesa (Spanish, or European ones like Lidl, Aldi etc) or do you have to go to Estepona?

We have just moved into a new apartment in Duquesa and see that the inside drain in our kitchen is to the top with water. Can anyone recommend an English speaking drain clearance solution? Thanks

Hi is there any new builds going on in and around Duquesa would need to walking distance to bars shops etc 

Does anyone know where I can get a cutter for a Venetian blind, I have purchased one but it’s slightly too wide but the other sizes were too short. I was hoping to pick up a proper cutter for a good job, I would appreciate any help. We are in Duquessa and have access to Estepona.

Hi, during previous visits to our apartment in Duquesa we used the services of a daily/weekly internet provider. Basically, you pay online for a day/week worth of internet at apartment - receive an email containing username and password - and internet is up and running. problem is that we can't remember the name of the internet service provider (Cabisur?)... Any ideas?
