This is so true, that it gets depressing. So much time and effort gets put into supplying information then the person asking just disappears, often posting in different parts of the forum or asking the same thing somewhere else.

Re malaga car.. it's busy busy. This was the queue today to collect a car!...

...

Unbelievable James. I've never seen queues like that before to hire vehicles. I understand the tourism has increased rapidly and the supply/demand is getting better. I don't know if you consider this normal or if it's usually more busier this weekend. They could be getting away from the Kings coronation week as they must all be British - We love a queue. Pardon the pun.

Hi all

It's been a while but just an update on the topic now I am finally settled in the villa in Competa.

Malaga car hire. So an ok experience although I do understand from comments on this topic to why problems arise with Malagacar.com

We had to wait for a minibus pickup to take us to the car hire site situated only just off the Airport. Very busy on arrival - easy 20 or so hire customers in front of us. Now this was around 09:45 in the morning. When my wife and I finally got to the front of the queue the sales representative told me they are short of cars.? At 09:45 in the morning.? Told we had a vehicle but if anyone would turn up from 11am it would be very difficult. Experience in the past at several Airports have been a breeze. I do feel that although you pre-book a vehicle from the UK, this is not guaranteed by the impression I received yesterday. Sitting by the pool now I would not have been very happy starting my trip to Competa without a car. I cannot imagine the scenes when this does happen - plus it's only the middle of June. Just an update for future reference to anyone interested.

Thank you for all your replies. Has anyone used allincarhire.com Malaga airport. Apparently just off the airport and no hidden costs. Reviews are very positive online.? Look reasonably priced. Nobody has mentioned them.?

I have used these many, many times, best car hire for Malaga airport by miles..   no crap, no hidden extras, no scams with fictional damage on car return.

Nice people, who will even give you a cold drink on arrival at their base after collecting you at the airport.

All my friends and relatives visiting Spain use them and NEVER one problem.

But whoever you choose, don't use the scammers based at the airport, they will nearly always find a reason to keep some, or all of your big deposit.

Hi Patrick

Thank you for your reply to this topic. I will take note of allincarhire for the future. I went with malagacar.com ( Full pack ) in the end. On arrival I was given a manual Nissan Micra. Looked sporty but not the best for the hills in Competa. I'm sure I pre-booked the automatic option but on checking my confirmation this was not apparent - something to keep an eye on going forward. Told that cars available were low - so accepted the Nissan. Return was easy process. They just took the keys and dropped us back to Airport Departures. I will monitor my credit card going forward as I read someone had extra charges on returning to the UK because of driving to  Gibraltar?

Great forum - great people who give time to others on important information and local knowledge. Thank you to all.

Hi Terry

Technically you should not drive your hire car to Gibraltar, but many do, and never heard of anyone being punished financially...so you should be OK.

Should you go again, park just outside Gibraltar and walk in... it also avoids the (sometimes) horrendous queue to get out.
