I am also concerned about this issue. I wrote to the council at Sabinillas and I got an immediate reply in English which was very helpful, but which really stated that they were willing to enforce the law but were usually not able to catch those concerned.

I then printed my own dog fouling warning labels and laminated them and put them up along the promenade. It seems to have made a difference. If you want any more, please let me know.

Hi Basilpru.

Thank you for doing that , I’m pleased to hear it has had a positive effect on the dog fouling .  Last time I was in Spain I did notice that the area where I walk was looking a lot cleaner .  From Casares beach along the sea front towards Sabinillas Town it definitely looked cleaner .

Thanks Again

Jan .

I totally agree with you. The promenade at Sabinillas is always dotted with dog poo.

Occasionally we see people letting the dogs foul in the cactus borders followed by the parks people hosing the excrement to the edges. ( including English people) everyone should pick up after their dogs .

I am glad it is not just us, there are a lot of dog owners and I do see people picking up, usually the brits I think??

Such a shame as it is a beautiful place, something needs to be done to ensorce the picking up rule.

Mm- not sure it’s just the Brits that pick up poo . They are not always good at it back in UK

I wanted to raise the issue of dog fouling; we purchased a property at Casares Golf Gardens 1yr ago, we absolutely love the area, its so beautiful however, there seems to be an issue with dog fouling, is there no rules/laws about picking it up?

We were at a cash-point on the main run in Sabanillas and a Spanish couple allowed their dog to foul right behind us, the smell made me wretch, they did not pick it up and walked on, only a couple of minutes later as I walked away wretching another couple going to the cash-point actually stepping...

... in it.

This is not an isolated incident, walking along the see front it is litter with dog foul.

What is the general rule?

Thanks

Ange

Andalusia comprises 774 municipalities each of which has legal personality and autonomy in many aspects of local policy, management and enforcement

One of which is dog fouling

In other words it’s down to your local Ayumtamiento to define, plan for and ultimately enforce what in England we refer to as bye-laws. Hence the many variations in approach

In the smaller townships you will battle with a deeply embedded community dog-wandering-is-ok culture.

The Andalusian Junta’s Council of Government departmental order of funding precedence appears to have ‘Environment’ low on its Totem Pole - so don’t expect the local Mayors to be pro-active in applying for enforcement funding support any time soon

Did you mention to them regarding their dog fouling? One has to be pro active. I have dogs and if I see anyone not attempting to pick up the dog mess then I give them a bag and insist they use it as what they are doung is against the law.
