Above some reviews on Avatel, I have  brilliant high speed internet with Vodaphone, but they don't supply 'bootleg TV'  like the BBC, for that you need a VPN.

Isn't using a vpn illegal as well?

OP... I am also with Avatel and overall I have rarely had a problem with them. That said, we are also experiencing patchy TV right now. I'm hoping it's temporary. I read the reviews at Trustpilot and, in fairness, they seem pretty awful and based on that alone I'd probably question using them but I can honestly say that my own experience with them has been totally different and they have always responded well to any query that I've had, not that I've had many reasons to contact them. I guess we all need to remember that mostly people leave reviews when they are dissatisfied rather than when they are happy so perhaps the reviews are a bit skewed. I haven't left them a review but if I did it would likely be a 5 star one. Let us know what you end up doing as it's nice to keep options open, especially if the current patchiness in TV quality doesn't improve soon :)

"Isn't using a vpn illegal as well?"

Using a 'Virtual Private Network is not illegal', it's also good security because it does not show your IP address, with regard to people selling on copyright TV services, it's piracy & illegal the Police are making moves to shut them down. https://www.theolivepress.es/spain-news/2021/06/23/illegal-internet-tv-network-dismantled-throughout-spain-six-arrested/  Part of 'Costa del Crime'.

It's not difficult to set up a VPN and with a good internet connection, via something like a Firestick or computer you can get high quality TV. You don't need a Smart TV.   https://www.expressvpn.com/go/get-started?category=VPN&subcategory=info&lang=en&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItc3MzOvN9gIVAuJ3Ch2xMQTkEAAYBCAAEgLn-vD_BwE

I appreciate that using a vpn in itself is not illegal but accessing UK TV has to be if you are in Spain…. It’s only a possibly more covert way of doing what avatel, Olivenet and the like do surely? Isn’t the fooling aspect sort of a clue? No matter how it’s wrapped up it must still be law breaking surely? Sadly it wouldn’t work for me as the fact that it masks my IP address would mean that I couldnt network into my office in London and I really do need to do that on a daily basis……

Two points, firstly it's illegal piracy 'selling something that does not belong to you', it's no different than selling on someone's software or music content, which does not belong to you. ('Piracy refers to acts of copyright infringement intentionally committed for financial gain') Secondly, on the subject of your IP address, a VPN can be disabled when not in use. (I'm not accusing any particular operators, but suspect small internet services operators in Spain are piggy backing on the major providers, then lacing with TV channels to be competitive, what deals they have, if any, with Spanish TV no idea, but will be none with the likes of BBC ITV SKY)

'Police claim that the IPTV provider achieved profits of approximately 150,000 euros per year'

So, basically, you agree that using a VPN to access UK TV is no more legal that using Avatel etc?

Where did I say it was illegal to use a VPN?  Note I spent my business life in an industry that depends on copyright and 'Piracy stinks',

'Piracy an act of copyright infringement intentionally committed for financial gain'

There are currently no laws prohibiting or restricting the use of VPNs in the U.S. and Canada. It's also legal to use VPNs in many other countries around the world, including the UK, Australia, and Europe
