ours is with DKV and costs €124 a month for us both.  It was the cheapest we found 18 months ago when applying for residencia.

Thanks Teresa, is it one where you can cancel at anytime or is there a contract with these?

Initially you have to commit to a 12 month contract but you can cancel after that.  I think this was put in place to stop people cancelling once their residencia was rubber stamped.

Private Insurance is VERY specific to the individual, any pre existing conditions, your age and what is covered.  Please be careful with this.  I have been given so much bad advice even from lawyers here.  Cancelling health insurance is precarious and also it can take years with a company before they cover you for everything.  Its impossible to read the small print because its all in Spanish. Try to call them to discuss they will not speak in English.

The only English speaking ones I have come across charge far more than everyone else.  I have personally tried to battle it out with an insurance company who would not respond to me by email and had no English speaking telephone lines.  One of the major ones. Now they are suing me, even after advice from a lawyer to ignore them.  Because I was forced to stop payment since they would not cancel my plan. They also increased my rates each year substantially.  Starting over can be difficult as you start back at the beginning with restrictions..

Its a mine field if something goes wrong.  I have decided the only way to deal with insurance companies is through a broker that can act on your behalf.  Not only will they get you the best price but they will act on your behalf if something goes wrong.  And for sure it will, given enough time or some issue arising.
