Hi

We’ve heard many stories and an interesting fact I’d that it’s best to have an alarm as if you have one fitted & obviously it’s activated, then the

police will attend and help to remove the intruders. So it’s worth installing one. We know a great firm who were so efficient and quite cost effective and have an app on our phones too!

Wishing you lots of luck

Hi Julie5, THANKS for the tip! Yes, I think an alarm is definitely the way to go, as these awful squatter stories have made me completely paranoid! Good to hear that the police do in fact respond to an alarm going off, and I'm sure that gives you peace of mind, especially with the app on your phone, so that you're alerted if there's a problem. Could you give me the name of the alarm company you used? If not, no worries, I'm sure I can find something suitable online. THANKS once more!

THANK YOU Nigel, I appreciate you thinking of me and bothering to send me the article :-D.

It's certainly very sobering, reading articles like this, and it amazes me that the Spanish government doesn't react in order to protect home owners... I can't understand it! I'll certainly take this into account as I think about whether or not to sink my hard-earned cash into Spain or not. I think it's great though, that so many people have been supportive and tried to help me with this decision, that's so nice of everyone! :-D

Hi Floss

Interesting article for you in the Olive Press.. Spanish Police are understaffed and underpaid that is why many people  have to rely on Security Companies to enforce the law in Spain. It is a difficult situation to control made worse by this Covid-19 Pandemic.

Thank you Nigel, this is very helpful! I can see now where the problems are coming from, and I guess the only answer is a monitored alarm system. I guess I'll have to calculate this cost into any purchasing decisions I make. THANKS again for being bothered to send me the article, I appreciate that! :-D

Maybe it's too late to reply, but just in case you still didn't make a decision yet...if I were you, I would NOT buy a property in Spain. Here, the Squatters are protected and encouraged by Spanish government. You are also forced to pay electricity/water supply invoices for them. A new tendency IS also growing now, which IS nightmare tenants. They pay the rent just the first month, then, they live for free for more than a year and you can't do anything to regain your House. If you stop paying the supply invoices, then you will be fined (3000€-6000€). This is a paradise for Squatters and they know It.

If anyone IS suffering this, please contact us [email protected]. we are a non profit organization. It's totally free. We just support and help each other. You are not alone 😊
