I would be happy to share my solicitors details and the name of a good financial advisor if helpful. Everyone I worked with were used to working with each other and communicated and liaised well with each other and me.

Hello,

Thank you so much for your email and advice.  My friend, who is buying an apartment in the same block visited Spain last week and had a meeting with the lawyer, and in her opinion the lawyer is doing everything she can to get the ball rolling.

It is very difficult for me, as I have to wait for either the estate agent or lawyer to advise as they go along.

To my understanding, we are now waiting for the 'first license of occupation' which has been provided but not for our block, so she is awaiting for the document with our apartment numbers included.

I will give it another couple of weeks, see how I get on, and if nothing has changed I will get the details from you.

I really appreciate your advice, it is so helpful.

kind regards

Karen

Spanish driving licence a little tricky now - they shut the extension deal today, not sure what will happen now? New driving test?

Hi Elle,

Brilliant, thank you for letting me know, it is extremely helpful.

I am so grateful for all the advice everyone is giving me.

We had delays waiting for first occupation licence too, the bureaucracy and timescales in Spain are something you have to get used to 🤦🏼‍♀️ I am pleased you feel happier now. Good luck.

Hi Karen

we are going through a similar situation.  There are delays getting appointments at the police station at the moment due to many people buying and requesting NIE numbers.  The earliest we managed was 30th May. The lawyers are checking daily  for slots.  We have given POA as we are over in England .
We did go up to the notary office with the lawyer (who funnily enough also works for the estate agents) and sighed and paid within the hour when we were in Spain. Our deadline is today to pay second payment and this has already been delayed due to waiting times obtaining pool certificate etc.

good luck with it x

Hi Karen,

Sorry to hear of your experience, very unfortunate.

I used a solicitor un Marbella and they were excellent and in fact set up bank account too.

However, Manilva Solicitors are a respectable company and local, so I would suggest you go with them. There is a local gestor too Rio Espinosa who take care of our personal and business tax issues. If you want their english speaking contact I can let you have it, but that is once you have bought the property.

Hi Angela,

Thank you for your response.  My friend went over last week and spent some time with the lawyer and estate agent, and managed to open a bank account (Banco Santander) without the NIE number, plus visit the Notary offices, so the lawyer now POA.

We have an appointment next week with a Notary in the UK,= and he will be sending POA the same day, but I have to say the lack of response from the lawyer is frustrating.

To my knowledge the hold up is the 'first license of occupation' and we can only guess when that will be provided by the Town Hall.  In all fairness, I can handle the wait but the current owner has bought in UK and she is packed and ready to go, so I feel for her :-(

I will give it another week or so, but if I can't get any answers I will consider changing lawyers.

Hope your situation gets sorted asap.

I appreciate all the support and advice, everyone has been brilliant.

Kind regards

Karen

Thanks Karen. It appears the issues people have are quite similar. Licences of occupation etc

Comforting to know we are not alone.  Good luck 🤞🏼 xx
