Yes, apparently. However, in order to get residency (in our case, NLV), you need to have a full private health insurance.

I agree with Kamran. For Residency purposes you need Comprehensive (not co pay) Health Insurance or you cannot get your residency in the first place. Once that is sorted you may be able to secure the S1.
Many things seem grey and shift with the sands for all the reasons we know but hoping that the S1 process is still available to those receiving a Pension from the UK and having paid into the system for the length of time the govt has determined necessary.
In Spain you might find it best to have Private insurance even if you do secure National Healthcare. Most people here who can afford it, do.
