Hi,

I am looking at moving to the Costa del sol in the next 12 months and am currently researching areas. I want to find an area where i can survive with my basic Spanish (hoping to improve it when there). It must have good public transport access as i don't drive. I'm interested in quite a chilled relaxed life, walking distance preferably from the beach, lots of good cafes/restaurants/bars. Social activities where i can meet people and make some local friends. The areas I am loooking at currently are anywhere between Malaga and Marbella but am open to any suggestions/ recommendations. or if you don't want to leave a message maybe choose from the few selections in my poll below? I'd really appreciate any insight.

Thanks in advance

Darren

Thank you so much. It does look like a beautiful area. Is it easy for a "non driver" to get around?

Absolutely bus stop by Max Beach and it’s very reasonable , personally I don’t use that bus but my son takes it

Hi Darren

Please have a look at Estepona - it has everything you might need. Lovely beach, great restaurants, lots of English speaking people and very friendly.  The town is completely walkable and a great bus service to Marbella, Malaga  etc.  Wherever you choose please ensure you rent for several months to try out the area.  Good luck with your search.  Alan

We have been living in Benalmadena for 15 years and prefer it to other parts of the Costa del Sol. Mainly we have a smaller ex pat. community than eg Riviera/Calahonda but the community of English speaking people, in general, are very nice and helpful. We are a 5 minute walk from the public hospital, the Xanit private hospital, 2 schools, nursery (bi lingual), chemist, Carrefour, Mercadona, Lidle. The Pueblo is a 5 minute drive. We have a sports centre, and in the town of Arroyo de la Miel there is an ice rink and many, many different shops, bars and restaurants.

Our town hall has arranged for free travel on all the buses for residents and the main train station is just a 5 minute drive from where we live. Also Malaga airport and city are only a 15 minute drive.

Hope this helps?

My sister has an apartment in Torremolinas right next to Benalmádena.  It sounds ideal.  Transport links are fantastic as are restaurants., bars etc.  I live in Casares, which, whilst lovely a car is necessary and the beaches are a bit pebbly!  Nice to live on the outskirts.

Thanks Alan,

Estepona keeps coming up on searches but though it might be too far away and difficult to access without a car but to hear the public transport is great is very encouraging. I will investigate it some more. It does look like a lovely area from what i have seen.

Kind Regards

Darren

In other words, do the leg work, look for yourself, and rent before you buy.

We all have different likes and priorities.
