Relocating to Spain and work

My husband and I are both 49 and are wanting to leave the UK and come to Spain. We have a small property to sell and would still want to work. We are looking in the Malaga province. I am a Chiropodist and my husband is a manager of respite services, but we were hoping to come out and possibly work for ourselves in a small cafe as we have both worked in hospitality before. We have heard horror stories of needing hundreds of thousands of pounds to move and just wanted some genuine advice on the reality of moving to Spain and still needing to work. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello

Let me know how you get on and if you need any staff 🙈😊🤣 I’ve worked in hospitality and am trying to learn Spanish . I looked into moving a while back and am pretty sure you don’t need hundreds of thousands , just enough to live if you move without work to go to

We moved last year but we have retired early so no requirement to work. But we used Chris at upsticks.es for all the form filling and advice. He has a lot if contacts. We feel it was well worth paying someone to do this as we have heard about some people constantly sending forms backwards and forwards, both costly and time consuming, especially when you are trying to co-ordinate a house sale into the mix! It cuts the stress! They have a lot of helpful videos on YouTube too! All I know about moving and working is that you can only take a job that has first been advertised to the Spanish, then Europeans, and if they still can’t find someone it is opened to third countries, like UK. You may have more luck with your chiropody than working in a cafe! Sorry I can’t help any more.

As far as I am aware unless you are an EU national you cannot work in Spain without a visa. To be able to work you can obtain a Golden Visa which means an investment of euros 0.5 million in either property, a business or other investments. The Golden visa costs about 4,000 euros to obtain and you will need a reliable lawyer to organise this for you.

The other way is a Non-Lucrative visa but I am not sure this gives you the right to work in Spain.

Thanks for the information. That’s along the lines of what I’ve found through my research but thought people living there may have found different ways. Thought it was worth asking

That’s definitely new information so thank you so much. Since Brexit it’s all become very complicated so any help and advice is great. May have to put the dream on hold until retirement. Thanks again

Assuming you do not wish to work then you will need a non-lucrative visa.

You will need a certain amount of money in your bank account. The amount keeps changing and depends how many family members you are. Best to check on-line as to the latest.
