Hi, I have flat in Estepona and have been told by the Hidralia that I have to change my water meter for a digital one. They say I have to get a plumber to change the pipes and then they will come and install a new digital meter. My next door neighbour is a Spanish builder (he installed my bathroom) has quoted me €750 to do the work. This seems extremely high to me and I was wondering if anybody else has had a similar situation.

Hi David, I did read that. We had our water meter moved outside about 4years ago and the pipes that were used were apparently right at the time. I've been back to the Hidralia office in Estepona and they have told me that the price is much too high for replacing the pipes and making the hole larger to fit the new digital meter which is bigger. They said they will get back to me with either there own people to do it or recommend a plumber. I'll post what happens for info for others.

Hi Martin

I know a very good plumber who will do this for much less.  His name s Fernando and telephone number is +34 722 74 35 55.  He does not have much English so perhaps communicate on What’s Ap.  Please say Alan & Tony recommended him.  - Alan

Thanks Alan, I'm waiting for Hidralia to get back to me. I noticed them yesterday changing my neighbours meter and asked them to look at mine. They said it would be no problem but they would have to wait for them to be assigned the work for my address. I'm going to sit tight until Hidralia get back to me.

I will keep your plumbers number though.

Thanks again,

Martin

Hi Martin

With apologies you are making a mistake - you need to do the plumbing bit in order for the water company to fit the new meter.  It is a two part thing and everyone in Estepona who has any water issues are been forced to do this.  The price for this is only going to increase.
Obviously your decision but I think you are been offered bad advise. Cheers Alan

Hi Alan, it does seem a bit strange that two people have to the work. What happens if the plumber doesn't do it properly. Surely the Hidralia should recommend a plumber they know can do it how they want it.

Fernando presumably knows what to do as he changed yours to Hidralia's satisfaction. Could I ask how much he charged you.

Many thanks,

Martin

Hi this is only advice but if you are in a block of flats you will have a president and an administrator  ask them before you do anything DONT SPEND YOUR MONEY FIRST,I have lived in my block of flats for over 20 years and although your flat belongs to you in the block everyone is on the same water supply and normally all the meaters are in the same place.
