Mijas Costa very commercialised now. At least Sabinillas, Castillo & Estepona retain some semblnce of being Spanish. But it depends what you want.

We do not want to live in little Britain. A nice mix of Nationalities and of course Spanish is what we are looking for. Thanks for the advice.

Hi, I have lived in Puerto de La Duquesa for the past 25 years  and I find it to my liking. There is a taxi rank in The Port with a regular bus service on the main road that runs through to Gibraltar to the West and Malaga to the East. There is a good Medical Centre in Sabinillas which is th...

...e next town to the East of La Duquesa, about 3 kms. Hospitals are situated in Estepona, Marbella and Malaga and there is a private Hospital Sanitarios office in La Duquesa complete with ambulances. In The Port there are two large supermarkets, one smaller one and an English Butcher that sells many UK products and a good variety of meats etc. In Sabinillas there are four more Supermarkets,  patisseries etc etc. In The Port there is a good Chemist and two more in Sabinillas. The Post Office is in Sabinillas.

Yes, there is an accent on golf as there are many first class courses in the very near vicinity and many International events are held close by, including The Ryder Cup  European and Spanish Opens over the past few years. There is also a good boating fraternity in The Port.

Lastly, as there are no Hotels in La Duquesa, the family tourist industry is relatively low.

I hope this little bit of information is of assistance to you.

Hi, great information,in normal circumstances what is it like in the winter months do the businesses close in the port. Are there good walking areas, meeting places for expats?  Applying for Recidencia would that be in Estepona or locally? Learning more about the area each day thank you.

Having recently sold up in Ibiza, we took the ferry to Denia in February, and we've driven all the way along the coast looking for an ideal coastal resort. Hi we have heard such good reports about Estepona are you on the coast or the old town area? We were there last year but very briefly not enough time to get the feel for the place. From what we have read it has not lost it’s Spanish charm also lots of shops and transport and open all year what we are looking for. Have friends from Mallorca who have just done the same as you travelling the coast they have chosen Duquesa. We are unable to do this as we live in Thailand so trying to choose an area and getting as much advice as possible. Thank you.

Hi Myra

We bought in Duquesa via Primrise Estates who are on the main road going into Ssbillinas. Lynn who us the owner is do very helpful and gave us great support and deals with many areas. I am sure she would be a great contact for you whilst looking and understanding the areas. Good luck. If you need...

... her contact details I will ask her if I can pass her mobile on or you can go via her estate agents.

Hi, we will look at her website we are in touch with a few agents at the moment.

Duquesa area and Estepona seem to be winning back to the drawing board.

Thank you

There's only so much information you can get from the internet. Actually visiting places gives you a fuller rounded feel for a place or area, and we all want different things.

For example, geographically we loved both Mojacar and Nerja. Superb locations and vistas, yet they both seemed to us to be over-run by ex-pats even older than us! There's more to Marbella and Puerto Banus than you'd imagine if you only watch TOWIE and Costa del Crime documentaries, but property here is very expensive. For us, Estepona has that perfect balance of history, a delightful pedestrian centre and a beautiful beach running the entire length of the town, It comes over as a genuine all-year round town. Perfect for those wanting to bury themselves in the Spanish way of life whilst enjoying the best trappings for ex-pats... English/Irish bars and cafes to catch the footy, Indian restaurants, etc...

We are in Castillo, in Duquesa. We don't need to use a car at all, we are right on the sea front, and we have 6 restaurants within 5 minutes walk, about 10 - 12 mins walk, there are about 20 restaurants in the Port. We find that when we want a quiet life, we stay in Castillo for the night, and for a bit more energy, we go to the Port.  Our development is called Los Granados.

Buses from Estepona is 240 bus which is about every 2 hours if your lucky so we always time our journey as you don’t want to be on side of road in this heat if u miss your bus . We decided we did not want a car here (?we drive at home) so Duquesa was just a bit to small an area and slightly isolated.
From Gib I believe Bus L79 again every 2 hours if your lucky
