Hi, I'm fairly confident we'll be fine because we have a good relationship with our UK based landlord, but.....if we can't leave our winter rental apartment by the end of April because of coronavirus restrictions, in our case a Brittany Ferry out of Santander, do we have any rights to stay put?

Would it not make more sense to talk directly with your UK based landlord before looking at what your rights are?

Just thinking out loud really, but I know when people start quoting their "I know my rights" to me, that immediately puts my back up whereas a sensible conversation of "This has happened, would that be acceptable to you" would have far better reception and response.....

Good luck, however it works out...

We are in the sane boat (not a joke ) but Brittany ferries to Ireland are starting around 20/04/2020 at the moment

We have tried to re book for 30 /04  but have received a wait and see from them

Keep posting any info

Thanks for this (first response) I completely agree with your views on rights. I was merely trying to have a comeback in the unlikely event the landlord was awkward.

Newsflash.....he's emailed to say he understands situation so all fine. hopefully.

And on the Brittany Ferries note - sailings to the UK cancelled until 22/04...we due to sail 27/04....frankly would rather stay in Spain a bit longer anyway as i think it can only get worse in the UK.

I think it wise to stay in Spain on a more stringent lockdown. The U.K. is too light touch and sadly we will see a dramatic escalation .

You are able to stay 183 days in Spain without becoming tax resident as my accountant confirms as we are in the same boat but gavv bc e our own apartment in riviera del Sol.

However I don’t think it will be enforced this year given the circumstances.

We too wish to go Santander to Plymouth but will stay until May sometime as I believe it’s safer here . Good luck
