Good Afternoon, my partner and I are now giving serious thought to a move to Viñuela and would welcome advice/information from anyone living there currently. What is the ex pat ratio? I speak Spanish and would like to have the opportunity of using it, should we move to Viñuela.  What are the pros and cons of buying there? Is it best to buy a car once we're there? Any experiences and advice welcomed. Thanks!

Being away from the coast temperatures will be more extreme, much cooler in winter, many Brits who move to the Spanish Campo do not find as ideal UK. Also best to rent if possible before buy, property not a great investment in Spain, due to about 3 million empty homes. Expect big discounts if buy, you would sure need a car there.

I have never been to Viñuela but have been to many small towns like it.  It does look magnificent with the mountains and lake but its a small town and quite inland so probably not much of an ex-pat community.  Your speaking Spanish would make that transition easy but it always then comes down to what you like to do with your time.  If you are an artist, or writing a book then you might quite enjoy the peace and quiet of such a town (always however check out the dog situation in these small towns!).

In these small towns I think a car is definitely required for both shopping and to enjoy all there is to offer within a 1-2 hour drive.

I have experienced small town Spanish life being quite similar amongst towns/villages dotted all over.  It may be the perfect thing for you and your partner though!  Myself, I live within walking distance of a small town but only a 15 minute drive to the Coast where I can find everything I want to buy and do.  For some people my drive up and down the mountain would be a horrendous burden but for me I love the transition from the Sea to the Mountains.

Enjoy your exploration and good luck with the decision making!

Hi There, I live in an urbanisation on the outskirts of La Viñuela and I love it here! We arrived a year ago and now consider it home. Summer has been hot, yes, but bearable, and the winter is cool once you acclimatise, there was only a wee dusting off snow on La Maroma last year. Biggest problem this summer was the water shortage and the shrinkage of the lake.

I don’t know what the ratio of expats is, but there are quite a few British, Belgian, Dutch and Danish in the region. There is a higher percentage of British in Puente Don Manuel, which is the next village.

There is plenty of opportunity to use Spanish as most of the bars, shops, Correos and town hall workers in the village don’t speak a lot of English if any! The walking and cycling opportunities in the area are tremendous and lots can be accessed from your door!

The bus service into Torre Del Mar and Malaga is good, but only about 4 per day over 2 providers. I do appreciate having my wee car! Happy to answer any questions you may have.

I live in a small urbanization that overlooks Casares Pueblo.  Casares Pueblo is a white village that is built on the side of the mountain.  There is also Casares Costa along the Coast.  :)
