Hi,

My wife and I received our Permanent Green Residéncias in October 2019, before the Brexit cut-off date.
In the last month, we have now moved permanently to Spain, where the Green card has been generally accepted - police, gestor, local ayuntamiento. However, we want to open another bank account with BBVA, who are insisting on a new photo TIE.

We live near Viñuela.

Can anyone advise on how best to exchange the old for the new and where?

Many thanks,

Nick

Nick, I wish it were that simple but nothing is that simple in Spain.  And its a good idea you get the TIE because, although they keep saying the Green card is acceptable, things are getting more complicated without it.  Once you register they will give you a piece of paper, take your green card and then you wait 50 days or so.

Under separate cover I will send you the details later today.

Hi Kerri,

Thanks for getting back.

Any more information would be welcome.

Someone has put us on to a local English speaking gestor, so we are going to approach him as he apparently sets up the appointment in Malaga and ensures you’ve got all the paperwork correct.

All best wishes,

Nick

Here is a link.  They are referring to a different area but you can get the details enough from this link.  Its important you follow the instructions for changing a Green Card for a TIE and not getting the TIE for the first time.  Many people have paid Gestor's to help them with this but I found that once I had all my ducks lined up...and I just stepped through them one at a time...it was no problem to get done.

Nick, as I said....the steps are really pretty simple.  If you wish to pay of course...but I do not think its necessary.  Its easy enough using Chrome to Translate to English on the registration page and they only give you 3 options at a time so you may have to log on a few times.  Then you have to log on again to pick up and the dates/times may not be applicable for you.  I think its easier to do yourself.  :)

Also Nick, once you enter your details the system will give you a few optional places you can go.  Not necessarily JUST Malaga but the dates/times vary depending on how many options.  This will be presented to you on the web site (which really is pretty straightforward once you translate it to  English) and then you can choose the best location and the best time for you, rather than have someone else just select whatever is presented.

My thoughts on the matter after having been through it and two neighbours as well recently.

That’s really helpful.

I’ll give it a go. Great if it’ll save fees.

Thanks again.

Hi Kerri,

Just wanted to thank you for your brilliant guide to getting a TIE. Although yours was centred around Alicante, I made the adjustment for Malaga and followed your instructions step by step.
Just got back from Malaga where all the paperwork was spot on and my wife and I will be getting our targetas in thirty days time.

Thanks again.

I will recommend your guide to others if the need arises.

Nick
