Heh Kevin,

I agree totally with your assessment of the situation!

In regard to residency I am sorry that I was not clear.  When I mentioned about gaining residency I meant after the deadline (not Brexit per se) - December 31 2020.

I think the real problem is for those trying to begin the residency process after January 1 2021.  Things really changed at that point and the requirements for the 30k in the bank was initiated.

Hopefully the people who really want to move to Spain can make it happen.  Best of luck to everyone trying.

Kerri

Hi Kerry,

Thank you for your kind response, I agree with you. My residencia was quick and painless. I applied in February 2021 and got it 5 weeks later, no problems at all. I just provided everything they asked for and my abodgado (Capital Consulting in Malaga) handled everything.

Hi

Is the figure of £24,000 for the main applicant, and £6,000 for each family member, a one off.

Or are these annual figures?

For example: If I buy a house in Spain, relocate, start looking for work, become a resident and secure work (planning on working as a remote tutor, for a European company). I doubt I'll be earning anywhere near the figures quoted. Which means...cancelling my plans of moving to Spain.

Or is this financial criteria related to retirees only?

Thanks in advance

Avon

Not sure about getting a visa to work but I know you need a non lucrative visa to retire which allows you to stay over the 90 day limit and to apply for residency and this process is not easy or cheap. we are starting this process soon as covid allows and I reckon it’s going to cost us in the region of £2,500 including fees forbids, police and medical reports plus Hague apostille.

Do you know if we would be classed as 2 individuals ather than a married couple for income purposes as we have lived together for over 20 years and have investments as married couple but like I said not officially married

I doubt they will take you as married as you are not but this is such a new situation there may be circumstances that will allow you to slide through.  Here is a link that may substantiate my thinking - Common Law Marriage in Spain | Perez Legal Group

Still, I would keep talking to specialists in this area on your circumstances.  Fingers crossed you find a way if this is your desire.

I recently heard of a woman who was living here in Spain for over 25 years but for some strange reason did not take all the financial requirements seriously.  She owns a house here and has private insurance even but was rejected for residency.  So now what?  Well, it was her choice to ignore it for 4 years.

The authorities want the documentation for anything that you claim. Its nothing personal as the British own too much property here. I like to think it was my good looks and dazzling personality that got me my residencia, reality is that I just completed the process,

Where are you getting these figures from? The whole process cost me nothing. I work through a UK agency teaching in the UK, no visa needed.

your lucky.
Figures are from the Spanish consulate which are £516 each for us to get the visa plus you have to attend an interview.
then there is £50 + for police record report, £50+ for medical report from our doctor then £60 for each document to be translated plus cost to Hague Apostille to confirm and certificate each document and that is for per person. And if we want assistance in Spain to get this it’s another €740  believe me it’s expensive, we’ve been looking in to it for months. Haven’t acted on it yet as the application only Lasts for three months and due to covid we don’t know when we can get over
