Hi

This is an annual figure. Amounts quadrupled from 1st Jan 2021 due to Uk leaving UK. Most people on a small pension will not be able to move to Spain in the future. Spain does not want immigrants to be a burden on the State when they become Residents.

Hi Nigel

Thanks for the update, and I totally understand Spain's views re: immigrants becoming a burden.

Not sure how people who relocate, and find work or start a business, are going to prove that they will earn the euro equivalent of £24,000 a year - minimum!

That's a lot of people's dreams, dashed.

Cheers

So, we were hoping to buy on a residential park and stay most of the 90 of the 180 day quota then in a few years when we get our state pension consider becoming residents.  There is no way our state and private pensions will come to £24k for main applicant but even though we could support ourselves there is no way of living in Spain permanently? 😞 Very sad unless things change.

This is the kind of info the 'clever' politicians kept to themselves before the Brexit referendum but I worked out that voting to end freedom of movement could make it a tough task to live somewhere in the EU, as a third country, so made the move. I've been lucky because I applied for residency last year otherwise I would definitely not be accepted now as my income's nowhere near the requirement.

It's easier to move to somewhere like Canada now! :(

We are just planning our move to Spain and hope to relocate to the Mollina area. Yes the amount you need even if you are retired is 33,893 euros for a married couple but this does not have to be solely in income. If you have savings in excess of this figure, this will be accepted.

You now have to apply for a non lucrative visa if you want to retire to Spain and you have to jump through a lot of hoops when applying for this. We are planning to sell our property in the Uk and buy for a lot less in Spain so we will have the necessary amount of money required. You need to apply for this visa at the Spanish embassy in the UK and it is at a cost of £500.16 for each applicant, this is for one year only then you have to apply for a two year visa, then another two year visa (where you are living in Spain). On the fifth year you can then apply for long term residency.

If you google non lucrative visa Spain you will be able to find out all the information you need, look on the Spanish embassy website as well, there are consuls in other parts of the Uk as well as London (Manchester is one) that you can apply to.

Hi

Thanks for the info.

I am planning on doing the same...selling my house & buying in Spain (Velez-Malaga), for a lot less. This will give me the £24,000 needed, but, I won't be retiring & will need to work. I've checked the Gov.Uk websites and can't see anything about having to prove an annual income, before you can apply for residency.

Is your quoted £33,500 approx...a one-off savings amount? How does it work re: receiving your state/personal pensions, whilst no longer resident in the UK?

Thanks in advance!
