Hi

My wife and I own a house in Torreblanca. We visit almost monthly. Both in our 70s and generally fit. We both have UK EHIC/GHIC. We also have travel insurance with Staysure UK. About 6 years ago I had a kidney stone event at Malaga Airport (we were leaving) Ambulance called and I contacted UK insurance. They instructed I had to be taken to Malaga “Public”  Hospital and use EHIC. They would not cover Private Treatment. Anyway, hospital was great. I had to pay for ambulance. EHIC worked.

To the point of this message. I have had an health issue this week. Took a tumble (sober) on the promenade. Bad fall and because I am on blood thinners my leg has inflated like a balloon and lot of pain. I coped with it and am flying/limping home tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Question. If I need Public MedicalA&E  help in Fuengirola, where I can use EHIC/GHIC, what should I do in terms of Ambulance (if required) and where should I tell them to take me for A&E treatment.?
Any help advice would be really appreciated.

Regards

Ian

Thank for the info. That helps.
It’s quite a way from us but doable.
All other advice on anything closer to Fuengirola would be appreciated.

Have you considered Helicopteros Sanitarios it costs € 495 per couple for a year but acts like a private GP and ambulance service.  The doctors all speak English. Look them up on line for details.

I hope you’re recovered now

Ian I am not aware of any public hospital between Fuengirola And Marbella with an A & E  and it is a good hospital as they looked after my father well when he was very ill with strokes but Jen has mentioned what seems to be a private clinic ! Which I may investigate myself or maybe there are private clinics closer to you. Hope you can find one ! Best wishes Julie

There is an extremely good public hospital in Benalmadena. The A and E department are very good. It is situated in Avenida de Cibeles. 29630 and is about 15 minutes drive from Fuengirola. As for private ambulances I really do not know but I do wish you a speedy recovery.

My brother had a heart attack in August while staying in Los Boliches. The emergency number (112 I think) advised him to go to the hospital in Las Lagunas by taxi. They have an A&E there. las Lagunas is essentially part of Fuengirola if you don’t know it already.
He assumed the taxi driver would know where the hospital was but she didn’t. It took them 10-15 minutes to find it including the driver asking her dispatch operator. Very stressful for my brother at the time.  So maybe best doing a bit of research for the location in advance. When he got to Las Lagunas hospital they examined him, paramedics were quick to get him stabilised and he was transported by ambulance to the Costa del Sol hospital in Marbella and within a couple of hours had a stent fitted by 11am on a Sunday morning. He was very pleased with the public health system but you may be best using a taxi unless you are unable to.
