Thank you. Is ING DIRECT an online bank? Can I set up direct debits for spanish utilities if I open an account. I thought I'd have to have a Spanish  bank, account.

I don't know anything about ING.
The EU countries use the EU Single European Payments Area (SEPA) system for charging DDs across the countries that are SEPA members.

I've used WISE for years and always found it great. Got a debit card with them and pound to euro transfers are quick and at the daily XR. I've had two Spanish bank accounts and wouldn't open another if I can help it.

Totally agree, I have a WISE Euro & Stg account and all utility bills and community fees/taxes are taken out with no problem

The account comes with no monthly fees, unlike Spanish Banks who charge €20 a month !

Also they have a European IBAN (not a U.K. issued IBAN like other U.K. Banks, including Revolut) therefore no problems or fees when setting up direct debits/standing orders 😀

I think what the knowledgeable people on here are trying to say, where banking is concerned...... is avoid the Spanish Banks!...

Any other type of Banking mentioned will be far better, might be a bit of flaffing about setting up, so try to get help from someone who has done it all recently, they will have jumped the the hoops and done the donkey work... just make sure you buy them a few beers after.
