Although on line banks tend to have less requirements and charges, it does depend on your circumstances. We use Cajasur, with a OK Plus account and if you can get your pension or wage paid in, and have at least I direct debit a month, and use your card so many times a year, there are no charges at all. Their website has all the info. My next bank account will probably be an online one though, as that's the way banking is going.

Hope this helps

Andrew

Hello Alex, Chris, David, Jeffers and Kerri thank you very much for having taken the time to give us information and advice, with your experiences and preferences. Most useful!    😊 😻  Zaa

You are welcome and thanks for the appreciation!

I can now also confirm that i have cancelled my Sabadell account and taken money out of the local ATM with NO charges to me.  There seems nothing that I personally have not been able to do with my N26 account.  For once I love a bank.  A first!  ha ha... (I only hope my euphoria lasts and they don't go and change anything!)

Thank you very much for your useful input David. Cheers!  Zaa

David is giving you very good advice, anyone who recommends ANY Spanish is not helping you, probably with good intentions but not good for your pocket.

Thank you Andrew, Olivia & Patrick.  Enjoy a great weekend. After a fortnight in Fuengirola, I am back in CH with 12° and rain......  Zaa

I need to take over the payments for utilities etc in Spain. My mother is with BBVA. The charges are extortionate. Can anyone recommend a good bank with lower/ no charges please. Also, looking for best tv/ internet/ phone service provider for intermittent use. Faro de calaburras / el faro area.

TIA.

Cee.

I'm also non resident.
I opened a UK Wise account online, bought a Wise debit card £5 online, transferred some of my euros from my Sabadell account online, set up all my DDs with my service providers for electric, water, broadband, council/car taxes and urbanisation fee to take money (euros) from my Wise account,
Once all my DDs were coming out of my Wise account I transferred my remaining funds from Sabadell to Wise and closed my Sabadell account.
All working well for me.
I'm not saying Wise is the best, but it works for me.

I have set up my Wise account in Google Pay and use my phone to pay in store.

A clarification.
My Wise bank account number is a Belgian bank account number.

Which is why my Spanish service providers DDs can be taken from my Belgian Wise bank account.

Thank you. Is ING DIRECT an online bank? Can I set up direct debits for spanish utilities if I open an account. I thought I'd have to have a Spanish  bank, account.
