Hello, my husband and I will fly out on the 16th Sept to try and find a house firstly to have holidays but eventually become our permanent home but first we have to narrow down which area. We will be staying in Alhama de Granada for the week and are seeing a few properties there. We have never been to Southern Spain so we are happy to listen to any advice you can give us. We would like to be somewhere prefwith all amenities within walking distance and within 90 minutes of Malaga airport. One of the places we are looking is Competa. Looking forward to hearing from you 🙏

Try Frigiliana! It’s much closer to the coast and has all the amenities and a very friendly and vibrant community!

Thank you very much. I will have a look and see what’s For Sale in that area

Always remember when buying a property in Spain, UK has a shortage of 4.3 million homes. while Spain a huge surplus.  Andalusia has 641,437 vacant residential properties, accounting for 13.73% of the total number of homes in the region (4,673,007) and 2.4% of total national properties (26,623,708). This is an increase of 4,216 from ten years ago. Push for the lowest price possible, don't consider a good investment, just a place to live, which can be very nice, always remember the saying, "don't buy with the sun in your eyes".

That’s great advice thank you. We have been shortlisting properties for the last 4 weeks then deleting the list and starting again. Originally convinced Alhama de Granada was the area for us then today we have totally changed our minds. We are now trying to find a place to stay for 1 week in Competa so we can check out that area.

Hi,

It's always best to rent in an area to see if you like it before you buy.

Once you commit to buying a property, its harder to sell and move somewhere else in Spain.

You might consider Torrox too. Personally I would not think of Competa it's too far from the coast and the road to it is an awful mountain road.

Frigiliana is expensive.
