Hi

I would go back to basics as the areas u could choose 90 mins fro Airport are endless.I am sure you have  a set of criteria eg coastal/ inland, nr good bus routes or Tain routes, villa / semi / terraced- urbanisation or country etc etc.

We rented for a long time before we chose our area- and I believe picking the area suitable for you would be the priority over type of property .We ended up in Estepona with a holiday home .

Happy days

Phil

Thank you for your advice Phil, Maybe this trip will just confirm the area and then it may take another couple of visits to find the house. Usually we are really impulsive but on this occassion its research, research, research. Oh and a spreadsheet :-)

frigliana is lovely but very touristy in the summer. Also up hill a lot ! Have a look at ladies moving to Spain it's a Facebook group it has lots of good information. The right location for your needs is very important.

Thank you. Yes I will have a look now. I really appreciate all the help I am getting from you all. My husband is leaving all this up to me. He thinks his bit is the driving around when we are there in a couple of weeks….

Sayalonga is in the hills but not as far up as Competa. We drove past it but didn’t stop, I don’t think it’s a big place though. Salares is even further into the hills after Competa so even more of a journey! Lol

Hi Nicky. We are initially looking for a holiday home to use for the next  4 or 5  yrs so we can get more familiar with the area. Then the plan is to sell up in the UK. We are flying out on the 16th Sept for 1 week  unless air traffic control here in the UK says different :)

We are renting a house in Algarrobo for the week and plan on exploring surrounding villages....

...

Its mind blowing trying to choose an area. There are so many cheap country houses for sale and we are tempted but then I get the sensible head on and think we should be within 20 minutes of the coast and maybe 1 hour distance from Malaga but where this would be is another question.

Fingers crossed we find the perfect location in September

Hi, we stayed in Canillas de aceituno, loved it there, very friendly, lots of restaurants, few bars, medical centre, pharmacy, lovely village swimming pool used by the Spanish and Brits who live there. Really worth a visit. I’d love to buy a small place there. Good luck!
