Hi friends, has anyone stayed, inadvertently or otherwise, longer than 90 in 180? I've just booked flights to Spain in July, and it takes me to 91 days.... Should I be worried?

  Thanks, Tim

What happens if I stay more than 90 days in Spain? The Schengen law states that you can't stay in the Area for more than 90 days. If you do,unintentionally or intentionally  you're may be  subject to a fine and possibly deportation and being banned from re-entering the Schengen Area.for a period of  possibly 5 years

Suggest you take legal advice on this subject.

I'd just change my flight dates to fit the 90 days. Sure, you'll have an admin charge, but that's less costly than getting caught with an intentional overstay i.e. booking a flight/stay of 90 days plus. Or the cost of legal advice.

You'd probably not be fined etc for an unintentional overstay such as not being able to fly due to covid/other medical issue

I've now changed my flight, so I'm only up to 89 days now!! BTW, it was cheaper to buy another flight (Ryanair) than it was to change the existing one!!

  Thanks all.

I was talking to a lady who has just arrived in Spain via Gibraltar for a holiday and they refused entry to a couple who had not booked a return flight. I think you are wise to have changed your flight, they seem to be stepping up the system.

It surprises me that they are actually checking. Wow.
