Hi Darlojo,
I’ve had a holiday home in Trabuco now for nearly eight years, my daughter was 11 and my son 17 when I bought it. I can honestly say that it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done. We looked at a few other properties in the area but decided pretty quickly that we loved the village for the following reasons,
1. Its a beautiful place with friendly people, not touristy (so prices are local and not inflated to cater for tourists) but with a fair number of British people living and visiting there, essentially a Spanish working village, which is what we were looking for.
2. There are a good number of shops and restaurants and a fantastic municipal swimming pool (open during the summer months only, which is the norm). As our house is in the village itself all these are within walking distance so we can go out for an evening meal and not have to drive, likewise as if your kids are old enough, or as they get older and have friends visiting they can get to the pool themselves.
3. It’s only about 50 minutes from Málaga airport. We fly from Newcastle, an early 7.00am flight gets us to our house by about 2.00pm.
4. Public transport, whilst not brilliant timetable and destination wise isn’t bad so you can come and not have to hire a car. (Which I do in the summer, since we only hire a car when my husband is over).
5. It’s brilliantly situated mid way between Málaga and Granada, both fantastic cities with very individual characters and lots to see and do. It’s also not too far from the coast if you’re after beaches. If you’re keen on walking there are also plenty of walks in the area, and there are some super serious cyclists around too!
6. The village always has lots on in the summer, there are traditional religious processions, flamenco concerts, rock nights etc. I went to a great (free) flamenco concert last year!
All in all I definitely don’t regret my choice of buying in Trabuco. I’ve been to Iznajar for swimming in the lake there which was lovely and can be recommended (though water levels are very low at the moment), I’m not so familiar with the village itself, though it’s very picturesque I guess it could get quite cold in winter and is not as easily accessible as Trabuco in my view. I’ve never been to Rute, so can’t really comment on that!
I hope you have a wonderful time house hunting, and manage to find what you’re looking for and I hope that my comments are helpful to you. If you want any more information feel free to ask! Out of interest the ‘Darlo’ Part of ‘Darlojo’ doesn’t mean you live in Darlington does it?
With best wishes, Inga
