Can anyone offer any advice on driving from the UK to Spain (apart from don't).

I don't fancy driving the whole of the UK, then France and onto Spain. Was more thinking ferry from Portsmouth to Bilbao/Santander and then the drive to Trabuco. Any advice/routes to take would be welcome.

We take the ferry to Santander. But we have found that for us we like to stop off part way down. We have found that the Parador in Lerma is excellent.

Hi Enid, it sounds like you've done it a few times. It sounds a daunting journey. I'm also worried about the ferry as I know the Bay of His day can be a bit hairy!

The ferry is really good we have only had one bad trip on the bay of Biscay. I am not a good sailor but we are doing again this year. Just be careful going through Madrid just keep in the middle lane can be busy but keep your nerve and it thins out very quickly scenery is brilliant. Enjoy the journey.

Hi,

I drove from Billinge, just outside Wigan to Portsmouth and then Santander to Malaga area. M6, M40, M4, A3M and it took about 7 hours with traffic and a stop just outside Warwick. We took the overnight ferry and drove to Madrid, about 4 and a half hours because of traffic. Stayed on the outskirts of Madrid and then down to Malaga. Took about another 4 hours. Just enjoyed the scenery
