Hi Everyone,

We live in the Campo at Torrox - there are now ‘ blue’ supply pipes for water.

We are trying to contact the supplier as the office was closed when we visited.

Can anyone advise us of the contact number / email details / address for us to get in contact with them asap.

kind regards,

Debbie

We have had to switch our mains supply off due to the co-operative we used changing their water supply to recycled water. We have used this for the past 11 years with no problems but now they advise that it is not to be used for even hosing down the terrace or topping up the pool due to the amount of contamination in it. We have increased our deposit capacity to 12,000l by adding a new 9,000l tank. The initial filling was done by a guy from Arenas at a cost of €140 foe 9,000l, is this expensive or not? We have neighbours who have had other suppliers but around the same price, so it looks like our costs are about to rocket. We paid the co-op quarterly and actually paid more for them to pump the water to us and the maintenance cost than we did for the water we used which was about a third of the bill. They have also now increased their water cost by nearly 200% in just a year.

HI Derek,

I also live in the Torrox campo, and receive water for irrigating our crops for self consumption from the Comunidad de Rio Torrox - which is/was your Comunidad supplier please? I've not received notification that my supply is changing - or maybe they just haven't said anything...

Many thanks!

Hi, Our supply was originally for irrigation, but all of the houses in this area were also connected for use within the home for washing, cooking and the pools etc .No one, even the Spanish had any problems using it in that way.  Last year they had a GM and announced that due to the drought they were going to incorporate recycled water from Velez and also both Torrox plants. They had technicians come and explain that it was not going to be suitable for spaying onto plants but only to be used for drip feed irrigation. They also said that it was not to be used for even spraying due to the risk of inhaling the droplets. It was not to be used for animals in any way as they could also be infected. They also announced that the cost was going up from 20c cubic metre (it had been 10c) to 50c and that other charges would also be looked at. The quality of the water also declined in the run up to the change which was due to take place at the end of February. Since there are no other suppliers here we decided to get a water deposit solely for drinking water and have it delivered by tanker. All of our neighbours even the Spanish farmers have had new tanks installed for their homes. Our co-op was Communidad Regantes Santiago El Morche. We notified them that we were cancelling our membership as it did not make sense to pay for something that was only used basically for a garden and small orchard.

Okay, Derek, thanks for that. I think it's just the tip of the iceberg, the drought has started earlier this year, watch out for water wars (people tapping into other peoples' supply), and wildfires...Hope you find a reasonable solution.

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone been successful in getting a water supply in the campo in Torrox?

We have had a water supply for 20 years but have now been told we need to connect the ‘blue’ pipes ….

No one seems to know who exactly we contact. Little or no water supply is difficult.

can anyone help ….. I need a contact number or email please.

Thank you
