We were on one of the last 'normal' flights back to the UK yesterday, our original flight at 2 pm was cancelled and we ended up on an earlier flight at 11.15. All was smooth and apart from a long queue at security and pretty much all the shops and duty free being closed everything was as usual. We were supposed to be returning on the 30th but changed our flights. At present lockdown is total and the police are handing out fines, a friend who lives in the area full time was stopped twice by the police on Monday when out food shopping. According to him, and certainly the same in France they are fining folk for being out Jogging. Personally I will not be returning until things have returned to normal (although I'm not sure what normal will look like.) I understand that easyjet flights from now on are pretty much rescue flights and that it is highly unlikely that the border will be opened until the current Europe wide border lockdown is rescinded.

Everyone should return to their place of permanent residence immediately. That's the Embassy, Spanish and French Governments, and common sense approach. The borders are shutting, and flights & ferries already drastically reduced. If they run out of respirators and have to choose who to treat, non residents won't, quite rightly, be priorities. Go home now, don't wait until your booked ticket.

Hi Cjohncamp,

I do not know the answer to your question as I think anything is possible at the moment. I have a similar problem. We are due to fly out on 5th April and we are worried that we will not be able to fly out. Also, would we be silly to fly out with all this going on? The situation is the same in the...

... UK so my thinking is, I might as well be in Spain as in the UK. Any advice or thoughts very welcome. x

We’ve decided to stay in Spain as we have a house in Estepona - London where we live I think is going to get very bad - some people are so ignorant and stupid - there are massive social gatherings at large supermarkets and suspect hundreds of people are being infected without knowing - I’m fortunate enough to WFH here so for the time being we’re staying put. I have two return flights with BA who are allowing us to change at no cost.

I know, I've been quite shocked....I'm in Hertfordshire at the moment & its generally being taken seriously, yet 30 miles down the road in London the bars & restaurants appear to be full & they still seem to be wondering why the infection rate is highest in London.....well, not "they" in general, just the "you can't allow this to stop me going for a glass of fizz crowd". And the reasoning behind the excuses is mind numbingly childish....one can only hope for karma....shouldn't say that really but it's what I think....

As much as I'd like to be back in Estepona I think I'm here for the foreseeable.....
