Hi all I am hoping to relocate to this area later this year, I have read somewhere that if I drive down I can only use my car for 6 months on UK plates then I have to register it on Spanish plates, does this mean paying import tax and a new Spanish MOT, is it easy to part exchange it for a used Spanish car, are there many dealers around Molina or would I be better off looking around Malaga to get more choice . Thanks Graham.

Hi Graham
What you have said is correct.
In Spain, the supply of second hand cars is much less than in the UK and, therefore, prices are much higher and it is not unusual to see people looking for high prices on cars that have done 200,000 to 300,000 km.
I would look at selling your car in the UK and finding a LHD car in the UK, which may have been imported from Belgium, France or Germany and usually will be substantially cheaper than a RHD car in the UK, drive it to Spain, pay the import duty and get Spanish registration and ITV, as the equivalent to an MOT, is called.
By the way, in Spain diesel has for a long time been about 10% cheaper than petrol and there has not been much of a switch from diesel to petrol that we have had in the UK as a result of the so-called 'dieselgate'.
There are a few other 'gotchas':

Why do most places have bars on the windows?
Is it for crime reasons? Is it really that bad?

In my opinion, not as bad as England and the Police are much more visible at all times. It's like England was about 40 years ago!

Having bars on the bars on the places does not stop breaking into your house. Its just the things are. Cheers Ian.

Hi
Although you may want to keep your UK car it may not be practical, think of car park and supermarket barrier systems etc and you may be more susceptible to being stopped by police
There are a few places in the UK that sell LHD cars that you could buy and drive down in, that’s what we plan to do later in the year.
