Hi all, we’re hoping to move to la Cala de mijas mainly for my health (rheumatoid arthritis) my question is will my husband be able to work (he’ll do anything) without having residency? Would he/we need the Spanish equivalent of our NI numbers? Also will we still be able to collect our pension when our time comes.

Thankyou so much in advance..

Hello Sue,

I am moving to Spain for similar health reasons.

Have you looked into health insurance? What about getting your medication?

Do you know much about the Spanish health system?

I'm making my own enquiries, but would appreciate any advice on health related matters.

Good luck with your move,

R

Most of the answers to your questions are "You're too late". Freedom of Movement as a member of the EU allowed people such as yourselves to live anywhere in the 28. After December, UK citizens moving to the 27 will be classed as '3rd country' and will have to be able to meet criteria such as proof of income & private health insurance.

As for work, unless your husband could scratch an erratic living from the other poorly integrated 'expats' who don't want to use Spanish speaking services, it would be almost impossible to find work. The Spanish unemployment is very high at the less skilled level, and after Brexit UK qualifications will not be recognised at the professional level.

Your best hope is to reverse Brexit.

Think you will need residency ,in the new year you will need it anyway, for staying after 90 days, and for work, and medical, and you should receive your pension no problems with that so far !

we are actively looking for a 2/3 bed property on costa del sol from 20 miles south of Malaga

Down to Torrex -Estepona area is our favourite close to beach and amenities

£400,000 ready to go  is our current budget but would consider up to £650,000 if property

Is exceptional

All possibilities that fit the above will be considered

Many thanks
