You cannot trust Spanish  Banks…..  I was with Bancaja for a long time and I had an intriguing call whilst I was in the uk, a very sweet sounding Spanish girl spoke to  me and said “we are offering a very special deal to our foreign customers, you can buy shares in our bank at a discount rate  and we will manage the shares for you at no cost” sounded good, but my Spanish rip off radar went off big time… within a month the bank had gone, apparently bankrupt and merged in an attempt to salvage the banking industry.

I would have lost all the investment ! Never trust a Spanish bank!

Found it very difficult with Cajasur. Happy to offer you a mortgage but thereafter trying to get an English speaking person in the branch for any help has always proved very difficult. We searched options and someone suggested ‘Revolut’. Take a look at it! You won’t need a Spanish bank account…

Are you a Spanish resident?

Have you completely replaced your day to day banking with Revolut or is your primary banking system still in the UK?

This could be a very big distinction for anyone deciding that leaving their Spanish bank account will not create some unforseen issue.

More details would be appreciated - thanks.

Hi

Personally I wouldn’t touch a Spanish Bank, they are expensive and generally inefficient and unhelpful (look at the google reviews they are both laughable and accurate).  Your gestor is probably getting a kick back!

I am currently using Wise and although there are the odd foible due to it being a Belgian Bank......if you get embroiled in a Spanish Bank, it is like swimming in treacle trying to escape!

Thank you and apologies for missing your reply. I now have an account with Wise and also N26 - both of whom pay my direct debits at no cost. N26 is more readily acceptable because the bank code begins ES.

However, I do have a second question but I will post anew since this post is old(ish)

I am 100% with you.  I was going to transfer to wise and use Sabadell as a backup to see if I could literally move 100% to wise as I am a resident.  I feel so sure there is something we will fall afoul of and would need at least 1 full year to confirm that Wise can in fact replace Sabad...

...ell (or similar).

I keep watching and listening to someone who is in the exact situation but it seems most people have UK bank accounts and they are not residents.

If you ever get to confirming this would you PLEASE post it here.  Much appreciated.

Kerri

I have two accounts - Wise and N26. I have set up direct debits through Wise and N26 for local taxes, town hall and Basura as well as my electricity (Endesa) and my internet (Olivenet) and Gestagua  (water) without incident.
