Brexit and moving to Estepona

I’m so sorry for your loss, and sending condolences.

If you decide to move it can still be done. You will find a lot of information on CAB Spain website. I think it’s called a “non lucrative visa” and you will need to apply at the nearest Spanish Consulate to you in U.K.. It’s necessary to prove x amount of money in the bank and a monthly income.  The documents you provide will have to be translated into Spanish and you will need private health care.

I’m sure someone put a step by step guide of how they did it on one of these forums. Maybe Alex could help you find it?  Hope this helps and good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Hi Mandy, I am sorry to hear of your loss. I also have moved across recently after losing my husband. I did take an extra year of research before moving across and this did give me time to find some peace. For a bereaved person moving across might take two years to get to Spain rather than a year as more time is needed to adjust. I took two years longer than normal but I am now here in Los Alcazares and it is still possible.

Just seen the private message facility. I don’t know how to do this as my brain is too full of grief to work properly. Unfortunately it is exceptionally difficult for Brits to move to (or to continue to live) in Spain since 1st January 2021. There are thousands living here who stayed "under the radar" as they say, by not registering for tax, nor registering on the Padrone. Now things have changed and if application for residency has not been submitted before the 31st December 2020, these folk will have to leave; next time they travel to UK they will need either a NLV (non lucrative visa) to return which has a considerable number of requirements, or a Golden Visa which requires a 500,000 euro property investment. Sadly, for a lot of people, there are tears ahead. A NLV means you cannot take up employment and must show substantial annual income from a source outside Spain.
