We went with Sanitas. We were constrained by the requirements of our NLV. Your problem is your age at 74. At 76 next birthday options reduce and costs rise.

We are considering a move to Coin from the UK. I am 74 and my husband is 70. I will have a EU passport (application in process for an Irish passport ). My husband just has a British passport. What we are concerned about is health insurance, obviously we won’t be working so wouldn’t qualify for social security. I did a quick online quote and with a pre existing condition, nothing major, the quote came back as €900 pm.
Just wondering what other expats have done regarding insurance, any advice warmly welcomed.
Thanks everyone!

You have quite a few good responses. I will add my thoughts:
1. You may need private healthcare for the first year to qualify for the Golden Visa. I am not sure about this but from what I have read the process requires comprehensive insurance to accept your application.
2. I have found using an insurance broker much better than going direct. They have access to many options and can find you the best deal. Sanitas for me was far more expensive than the company I ended up with. Which is why talking to a broker might give you options and you can check them against Sanitas who market to the English-speaking community.
3. If you are British I am assuming you have a British pension and therefore you can apply for the S1 and get full Spanish healthcare. Lots of people have tremendous experience using it. Its a little more difficult if you do not speak Spanish in the Public over the Private. There are bound to be some areas that are challenging like all public healthcare systems but most of what I hear the system is very good.
4. Then on the second year you can cancel the private and go full time on the public. The one year private gives you a chance to work everything out.
