Hi guys

My husband and I are looking to relocate to Andalucia in 2023. We love the heat, beautiful scenery, the cheaper cost of living and the laid back way of life as a whole. My husband will be taking retirement so great for him I However I’m 10 years younger than he and won’t be able to retire yet.

I’m a qualified registered veterinary nurse in Scotland and I have an EU/Irish passport as I was born and lived in N Ireland for many years.

My question is this. Is fluency in Spanish essential to finding a job?

By the time we move I will not be fluent in Spanish and will know enough to get through daily life. Yet i may struggle with some vocabulary, structure etc. I’ll be able to speak and understand some but given my skill set would a local veterinary clinic consider hiring an RVN for a more non client facing role on a part time basis (2-3 days)?

We will also be bring over 6 cats 2 neuters and 4 entire breeding cats. Would I need to apply for a nucleo zoological?

Any advice you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Ron

your properly learning Madrid Spanish and on costa del sol it pheasant Spanish and people here don't understand Madrid Spanish

als more than 5 animals you should have zoological license but no body takes any notice

if you not buying but rentting most landlords dont allow pets

Hi Tangtony

Thank you for this, sounds like I will have to apply for a zoological license. Is this easy to apply for?

We would be buying outright but not in an urbanisation somewhere with no shared facilities.

it is Madrid Spanish we are learning. Will people in Alhaurin really not be able to understand us?

Currently I may be able to work it out so that I don’t require to work in Spain. So at least that is something not to worry about.

Hi Ron28! How exciting for you. Castilian Spanish is what is spoken here, and that’s what you will be learning. Just like anywhere else in the world accents change from place to place, but are still understood. I am sorry to say that it would be extremely difficult for you to find work here at the moment, but you are not moving for two years, so things may change 🤞. You could start getting in touch with companies now to judge their reactions. There is one place I can think of and I’ll pm you, I have to say though, that until you know where you will be living, it’ll be difficult to pinpoint a location for work. I don’t mean to be negative (you had enough of that with your last reply) but I need to say something about your cats. Alarm bells went off when you said they were breeding. Spain is awash with feral cats and, whilst I dare say, yours will be pedigree, I’m not sure there will be a market for them. But hey, good luck! I would highly recommend the move 😀

glad to help when buying though a good thing to remember is telephone lines if  you need internet ask about telephone lines and ask if they now what company's supply

remember run checks on your solicitor as most out here have been on charges for one thing or another most are corrupt

make sure that all debts are paid on house because out here debts stay with house if you buy you buy debts

and before completing take a copy of deeds  to house to town all have it checked that the land and building are all legal

no i  have not been caught out these are just some of the pitfalls about buying out here from people i know

lived here for twenty two years so know a thing or two

most of the Spaniards here wont understand you but as you go on will make it easy to pick up it here

for instance in Madrid tell me is digame

here its dime

they drop a lot of letters here its like a borad  Gordy speaking to a Londoner

Hi Cazmac 22

thank you for your reply. The cats I breed are British shorthair pedigrees. I’m aware that Spain has hundreds of feral cats around and the last thing I’d wish to do is add to this number.

Must of my client base will probably be exporting throughout Europe.

Ron28, sorry if I sounded negative. Just thought I should mention it.

There is a russian blue breeder here in alhaurin, at "cat & dog world" which is a kennels / cattery.

Might be worth an email to them, no point calling them with questions that you might have, they are probably busy.
