Hi - my husband and myself are in our late 50s and would hope to buy a property in Torrox area/surrounds so that when we retire in a few years we would be able to spend a number of months there initially.  Would you recommend Torrox costa or pueblo.  We will be visiting the area in September to have a look around.  We will learn Spanish but that will take time.  We would like to experience real Spanish life but we know its difficult when you don't speak the language but we would definitely try.  We would like to be near to shops and not in the countryside.  Is Torrox Costa just like any tourist area, or does it have a good mix of Spanish and ex-pats with a Spanish feel or would it be better to look at the Pueblo instead.  It sounds as though Torrox pueblo might offer a mix of local and expats which would be lovely if that's the case, as it would be important to be able to hopefully join in various activities etc as time goes on.  We had looked at Lanzarote as we know it pretty well but it is very much a tourist destination and you don't really get a sense of being in another country...apart from the weather of course.

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Kind regards

Hi.

I would look at torrox pueblo.

If you are serious about purchasing I would recommend you speak with Caroline at taurus real estate she is incredibly helpeful and would definitely help you find a property.  We have just bought a villa in Competa.

Good luck in September.

Hi Steve, As you live in Competa can you tell me how I get there from Torrox Puebilo. Would I have to get the bus to Costa then Nerja and one to Competa. We are staying in Torrox Pueiblo on holiday, and drawing up a list of places to go.

We had a look on YouTube (as you do) and  Compete looks so pretty. Can you also recommend a place to eat? Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Joe

Hi Joe

Competa is very pretty and worth a visit.

Restaurants worth visiting are El pinon and El Pampano ( my preferred)  but both are very good.

I am not familiar with the buses..sorry.

Hope you have a great time.

I would definitely recommend Caroline too - she is brilliant. We have just bought a townhouse in Canillas de Albeida which is a lovely village with a about 5 restaurants, butchers, bank, fishmongers, swimming pool but Competa is only 25 minutes pleasant walk along the goat track and about 5 minutes drive to Competa. Competa is a perfect mix of mainly Spanish but some British and Scandanavians  - plenty of restaurants and shops but very pretty too.

Good luck with your house hunting
