Unsure about the French road, but we just did Costa del Sol to Aranjuez, then up to Santander, and it was easy.

Janine2019 is the best advice you have received, I have made this journey several times and can add that if you travel to Dover and get a late night ferry, you can use the free A roads through northern France through the night with zero congestion and little or no tolls, it is awful travelling that route in the day time.

That is the route we have decided to take
