Brilliant article from The Guardian on water crisis in Catalonia

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/mar/02/it-makes-me-so-sad-church-reemerges-from-reservoir-as-spain-faces-droughts

As I,ve said earlier posts -here in Axaquira -what happened to the emergency water €27m scheme  as in Benejarafe it appears to have stopped ?

What about an in depth study on the demands of agriculture, crop demands now and affects on the aquifers?

Waste through poorly maintained water mains ?

Rainwater harvesting particularly on commercial and domestic ,market ?

Desalination plants ?

There's a lot to examine and implement https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/mar/02/it-makes-me-so-sad-church-reemerges-from-reservoir-as-spain-faces-droughts

I note many media articles on Catalonia, little about Andalucía, where the position is very serious indeed. We only have a few weeks for any rain it's normally dry between May until October, a few days are forecast from Thursday. However, this will not compensate for the lack of rain since October 2023. The heaviest rain is missing which falls in November December and January, so I think we will be in big trouble. The national government should have looked at this long ago, with cross country pipelines and major investment in desalination plants. Without water every thing will collapse, from tourism to property prices and agriculture, this could be a very tough summer.

yes totally agreed

if you took the newly built coastal footpath rincon to Benejarafe -the chirinquitos had survived covid just and then the parking disruption and then finally their water supply was turned off from 6pm to 6 am at peak tourism !!
