We are travelling by car from the UK to Nerja in Sept/Oct, our plans are dependant on travel restriction. We have driven in Europe lots but not driven across from UK before, we are very covid aware and will have to spend a night or two staying over to break our journey, so any advice on decent places to stay, best routes etc will be much appreciated. Any tips or pointers would be welcomed.

We have not decided our route yet,  we may go via Euro tunnel  through France into Spain or by ferry to Santander or Bilbo, in  normal times the ferry is probably the best option but I have some concerns with an overnight ferry given the current climate. We have our own place when we arrive.

Any advice/information will be much appreciated.

Thanks

We have travelled down to Nerja alot over the last few years, spring and autumn.

We find it FAR better to use Brittany ferries to either Bilbao or Santander.

Look at their timetables, several arrive around 6pm, and you should then be able to reach somewhere like Valladolid or Aranda de duoro ( south of Burgos) in just under 3 hours. Some nice hotels for overnight stops in both.

We use the ferry that leaves on a Wednesday at 12.00 for Bilbao, arrives at 12.15 Thursday. We then overnight at Aranjuez just south of Madrid, just under 5 hours drive. Easy drive then to Nerja!!

By the time you have travelled down through France, the cost is the same or a bit more than using the ferry.

Look at the website, they seem VERY organised re coronavirus.

Flying down to Malaga and hiring a car for say 1 month is alot more expensive!!!
