Raw sewage
Hi,
Is there still a problem with raw sewage on Burriana beach in the afternoons?
Umm, what?! That's surprising, when was there raw sewage and from where? Yikes! Isn't that Gov't regulated?
Sorry I'm not answering your question and asking more but...raw sewage?! What?
Thanks if anyone could help out with more info about this. ❤
Hi,
All the sewage pipes, manhole covers, and pumping stations along the coast from Manilva to Torremolinos are planning to be removed at an estimated cost of 300 million euros.
Apart from the obvious reason, it has also been discovered the pipes stop the sand from regenerating naturally.
Perhaps Nerja will be on the list?

Ok. Good to know, thanks.

The problem was that sewage was allowed to be released into the sea at certain times of the day, somewhere to the East of Nerja and the tides then brought it onto the beaches in Nerja and Burriana Beach was the first in line.
Nerja council/Andalusia were fined by the EU for not providing a proper sewage treatment works. This has now been built behind Fuenta Del Barden and I understand is now working.
There have been delays (not surprising for Spain) in it being finally signed off, but if not done yet it should be close and hopefully will stop any of the previous unpleasant problems from happening again on the beaches.
Let’s hope so!

I am reliably informed by a driend who lives in Nerja, close to Burriana beach, that sewage is still being discharged into the sea in this area - the new multi million euro treatment plant is still not up and running...

Yup, still seeing scum in the sea last week. Surely the authorities are concerned about the impact on tourism.
