This is an issue I feel quite strongly about even though it doesnt effect me in the slightest. I do own a house in England but I have been resident here for many years and have no intention of living in the uk again.

For me, the people who bought property here before Brexit did so on the understanding they could stay up to 182 days of the year. For example, spend 5/6 months here over winter to avoid pumping their life savings into the gas meter and rent it out in summer to cover some of the costs. ...

...

Now, due to something they probably didn´t even vote for they can no longer do so (although I was recently chatting to somebody who was complaining about this situation and it later came out they both voted for it...turkeys and xmas come to mind).

Just doesn´t seem fair to apply this outcome retrospectively. People who buy now do so knowing the new rules. Those from before Brexit should feel robbed.  Spain was happy to take the cash from them and will continue to do so so why should they move the goalposts?

Totally agree jack and this is my argument with the current rules, as i have stated before we bought in spain 17 years ago and have paid and still paying into the system for our apartment and car.

We are now expected to pay 12 months of community, taxes etc but only allowed to stay 2x3months per year. unfair to put it politely.

The Spanish, should in my opinion made an exception to the existing rules for people who like ourselves( who voted to stay in the EU incidently) prior to the vote date and owned property to be able to apply for residency.

A farce from start to finish.

Except from Bremain in Spain article 2021

"The biggest ‘selling point’ of Brexit was the ending of freedom of movement. Its removal was hailed by Priti Patel, Nigel Farage, Boris Johnson and many more as a triumphant victory. This attitude always came across as illogical, considering only the British would lose the automatic right to work, live, love, and retire in 26 countries. However, people did vote to remove this benefit. That brought far-reaching consequences, many of which are still becoming known. When the UK left the EU club, it became a ‘third country’ and it, and its citizens, lost access to the club’s abundant benefits."

the 90 day Schengen rule applies to all the 26 countries in the Schengen  member states

I think you should reflect on the hostile language and attitude used by certain UK politicians and the attitude of certain UK population which adopted that attitude

Unfortunately Boris Johnson wanted to get Brexit done by October  but he didn't and it was left till late December with a lot of the finer points not resolved

Thats BREXIT and were unfortunately WE are stuck with the consequences

Thats maybe not what you want to hear but thats life post Brexit
