EX19 Application & Schengen Days

Hi all - does anybody know if by submitting an electronic application for residency (EX19 - Family member of Spanish Resident/EU Citizen) allows the Schengen Days to be 'paused'. I have the NIE Verde (residencia) but my wife now needs to get residency as she is a UK citizen (I am EU) - we will be submitting the application through a Spanish lawyer and he stated that this is the case (days pause). My wife only has a handful of days left now - as we had to wait so long for my appointment to get residencia at Malaga (3 month wait for the appointment at the police station). Her application will likely take 3 to 6 months to get approved.
