Hi there we are in Duquesa at the moment and I have developed a hacking cough which has persisted. Unfortunately I am producing phlegm and feel unwell, can I get antibiotics over the counter her or do I need to see a doctor for medication and if so how do I go about this are they based in Duquesa. I would appreciate any help Thanks I have purchased cough medicine and Sudafed equivalent but these have been no help Thanks

By law, you can only get antibiotics (antibióticos) from a pharmacist in Spain if you have a prescription (receta) from your doctor.

Hope now sorted, private doctors are cheap only about 40 Euro for a consultation. .

You can try this English Doctor in Estepona http://www.doctorfurness.com/ or wait till Monday. http://www.rgdg.es/

There is 24 hour private emergency hospital in Estepona  https://www.cenythospital.com/en/24-hours-emergency-general-and-family-medicine/

The main Costa Del Sol Hospital where you can use EHIC card the other side of Marbella.  https://www.andalucia.com/marbella/hospital-costa-del-sol.htm

A local Pharmacy might give some advise, Spain has a surplus of doctors, many private ones and cheap, just speaking English a problem, but many do.

Hi there , both myself and partner had the same thing as you. Told by our doctor that it is caused by a virus affecting many people at the moment and can last many months. Ours has lasted 4 months. The doctor told us that it was a waste of money buying over the counter medication. Also nothing a doctor can prescribe can help. He told us that the only thing that would bring this to an end was warm weather. So we are heading for our apartment In torremolinos from the U.K. good luck but it seems the summer weather will clear it.

There have been many colds here in Southern Spain over the last few weeks, the virus may well have originated from Northern Europe. (Easter present from tourists!) Many Spanish have caught leading them to get Covid tests, I presume you have don that? 'Antibiotics of no help, unless becomes bacterial'. (How do you tell? mainly if the phlegm turns 'yellow', which is caused by bacteria, in which case be carful, swelling of the of the lymph nodes can indicates pneumonia, which also needs antibiotics, the general rule if 'clear' it will just go away & perhaps best not to take to the surgery) People have given you lot's of contacts, 'good luck'. .

Yes I have tested regularly and we brought tests, they are all negative and yes I have yellow phlegm, thank you all for your help and advice, I did need antibiotics, as I had a fast pulse and a bit of a temperature. Thank you all for your kindness
