Hi Julie,

I brought my two cats down to live with us here in Casares two days ago, so this is probs the most current of some quite confusing information. Also, my cats came with me in the cabin of the aircraft. The rules are the same for very small dogs, but I think larger dogs have to go in the hold (small pets must be put under the seat in front of you in airline approved carriers. As far as I know, no U.K. airlines take animals in the cabin. We had to fly with KLM/Air France. Because we went via Paris, we had to go through security there when we landed. The other airline we could have flown with is Iberia. Without knowing the size of your dog/s I can’t be more specific. It’s a hell of a lot cheaper to have your pets in the cabin with you (£92 for both cats with KLM) and I didn’t want my cats travelling in the hold. It was stressful for all of us, but after a good sleep we are all fine (cats are more settled than I am!) and I am so glad I decided to bring them down.
My cousin brought her dog to Tenerife with TUI, but that was a while ago and the rules can change. By all means PM me on here. My cats needed a health certificate from the vet, plus a rabies vaccination. Altogether it cost me about £600 to bring them both here. None of their documentation was asked for in either Paris or Malaga, but you can’t risk not getting it all done! It  seems like a bit of a mission, but it can be done, so if you want your pets with you and don’t want them rehomed, go for it! Good luck!

Tracy

Hi Tracey,

Thank you for the information  it was very helpful.  I have a 32kg labrador and he would need to go into the aircraft hold, which I am not keen on. I will probably look at driving from the UK. Its longer but think it will be the better choice for my dog..

Cheers

Hi Julie, yes, I would do that, then. Please check on the Eurostar because the last I read, they do not take animals. BUT you still have the ferries. Our neighbours live in Luxembourg and they bring their large dog with them in the car. You have the option of pulling over and stretching you and you dog’s legs.
Good luck!

Hi Jackie, yes, I think I’d feel the same if I was bringing a dog over; it was stressful, but unfortunately I didn’t have much choice and it’s a lot easier with two small cats than even a medium sized dog. Thank goodness they are settled now and the experience hasn’t had any traumatic effects on them…

Hi I have 2 Doberman’s and we drive them out.

Dogs get very distressed in the hold , I have done it before and wouldn’t recommend it.

Hi there, no, I wouldn’t let my cats travel in the hold. At least in the cabin I was able to put my hand into their carriers and give them a little stroke, and they could hear my voice.
