There is a form that the French say is required. It is a simple one page form (there is an English version online) with only two questions—are you a EU citizen or an other country national and where are you going. For us the answers were we are EU and we’re going home. When we got to the border a Gendarm looked into the window and asked where we were going. We said Austria and he asked for passports. He took a quick look and waved us on with a friendly Bon Voyage. He did not ask to see that form. And when we got to the hotel tonight, they didn’t ask for the form either. There was no line at the border. We were the only passenger car there. In fact, In the last 10 miles before, we maybe saw 3 autos.
