We are duel citizens (British- Hungarian) EU passport holding pensioners resident in Budapest, Hungary. We wish to purchase a second holiday home in Alora but do not wish to become Spanish residents for tax purposes etc. Before proceeding with this project we need to know what administrative steps we need to take and what regulations apply in our case.

You will need to apply for an NIE in order to acquire a property (Numero de Identificacion de Extranjero) which must be signed off by the Police
You will find the Application online - and in many locations you can make an appointment with the Police Station
For Alora you must attend the Malaga Police HQ. Your estate agent will advise you whether you can make an appointment there - or have to queue like I did seven years ago…
You mat require a letter from a Notary confirming why you are applying for an NIE plus a passport pic (in addition to your passport)
